Duties After Loss

Your home-owners policy requires you to comply with “Duties After Loss” listed in your policy. In case of a loss to covered property, you must see that the following are done. These will include giving prompt notice to the insurance company or your agent, protecting the property from further damage, making reasonable and necessary repairs to protect the property, and keeping an accurate record of repair expenses. If applicable to your loss, you should also prepare inventory of damaged personal property showing the quantity, description, actual cash value and amount of loss. Attach all bills, receipts and related documents that justify the figures in the inventory. Your policy will also require you, upon the insurance company’s request, to show the damaged property, provide them with records and documents they request and permit us to make copies; and submit to an examination under oath, while not in the presence of any other named insured.
